The Goldfinch ~ A Painting by Carel Fabritius (1622-1654)
The gifted Dutch painter, Carel Fabritius, was a student of Rembrandt. He died at the age of 32 in the explosion of a munitions store in Delft in 1654, a blast that destroyed one-quarter of that city. His painting, The Goldfinch, is one of only a few of his paintings that survive and figures prominently in the current novel by Donna Tartt, The Goldfinch.
